Duties, Schlein: "Meloni downplays but 100,000 jobs at risk"

Duties, Schlein: "Meloni downplays but 100,000 jobs at risk"

"In recent days Giorgia Meloni has downplayed the impact of the duties. She said: 'If they were at 10% it wouldn't be so serious'. According to Confindustria, however, it would mean losing twenty billion in exports next year and putting more than one hundred thousand jobs at risk". This was stated by the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein on the sidelines of the Festa dell'Unità in Mantua.

The secretary continues: "We ask the government instead to strongly support the European Union negotiations to avoid this trade war that Italian businesses and workers would pay for first and to fight for a common European investment plan that will relaunch Italian industry, manufacturing and the economy".

Schlein then praised Spain and its secretary Sanchez: "They did well, they said no to Trump and to the 5% increase in military spending for NATO which will be the end of the welfare state. They reduced the price of energy for businesses and families by investing in renewables and above all by detaching the price of gas from that of energy: we ask Meloni to do the same". "Find the courage to do it - he added - by affecting the extra profits of energy companies".
